The DEAN Community Standard

Duke East Asia Nexus (DEAN) is an international community of scholars and learners, committed to the principles of accountability and mutual respect. Especially in comments sections of the website, readers share with writers the responsibility for promoting a climate of integrity. DEAN has implemented several guidelines to this end.

Before joining our academic community, please be aware of the following:

1. DEAN will not accept comments that defame, abuse, harass, stalk, threaten, or otherwise violate the privacy of others
2. DEAN will not tolerate comments that promote hatred or prejudice against any race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, or creed**
3. DEAN will not tolerate inappropriate, profane, obscene, or indecent use of any language
4. DEAN will not authorize comments that advertise or offer to sell or buy any goods or services

**For borderline cases, such as those arising from cultural differences, DEAN administrators will seriously consider whether the comments in question are adequately sensitive to the practices and beliefs of others.
